These people who own the store are very stereotypical. They make their employees follow customers around making sure they’re not stealing causing customers to be uncomfortable like what does that say about the customer that you don’t trust them automatically because the way they look? That’s not very good customer service it happens every time I walk into that store no matter if I’m with my children my family my parents or my friends or just by myself. All because I’m covenant tattoos does it give you the right to automatically assume I’m a thief.
PA has a great supply of art and office supplies. But the customer service is not what it used to be. The first person treated me like I was inconveniencing her. I asked her to show me where the item was. When she showed me the item I did not ask for, she acted like she was put out. I asked another staff member to SHOW me where the item was that I needed. She only pointed and said “over there”, the opposite side of the room where the first person told me. Asking the first person again where the item was, she said they are out of stock, making no effort as a customer service person. I then asked Mark where this item was. Although he was busy stocking shelves, he stepped away from that to show me where the item was. Checking out, the person at the counter never acknowledged me. I politely said hello, how is your day and when I left I said, have a good day. He said absolutely nothing but yawned. Customer service is not what it used to be. The staff looked bored and inconvenienced. How about a smile and ask customers if you could help. Don’t just say I don’t know. You can say I don’t know, but let me find out for you. Making customers feel like you care goes a long way. Ignoring them or making them feel like you are inconveniencing them is not right and will not return. I have been shopping at PA since the ‘70 when it was run by the wonderful Trowbridge family. The lack of friendly service will make me think twice about returning. Again, thank you Mark for your kind professional service.
My daughter is taking a college online intro to drawing class. The professor gave a long list of needed supplies that can be ordered online. We prefer to support local and went to Palace Art. Kaylee was SOOO helpful in finding all the supplies and explaining the purpose and differences. So grateful to have such a great store with expertise in my community.
I love this place! They have really high quality art supplies but also more affordable student and beginner options. There’s toys and games for kids. There’s doo dads and trinkets if needing simple gifts. They’ve got supplies for textile dyeing (like mordants etc) and office supplies type stuff. Folks working there seem happy and well treated. Oh there’s a whole room of cool paper that poster sized. You could use it for wrapping paper too. And a nice clothes store is connected to it. I love my Palace!
Amazing art store! So glad they are still in business under new ownership!
I’ve been coming here since 2007:) They used to have 2 locations. I moved away, but when I come up to visit family I stop by to buy some art supplies here! I highly recommend this place for office, art supplies, and crafts.
I think the also do business with the local school districts to provide them paper and school supplies:) It’s definitely great to support a local business:) If you are a local in Santa Cruz, the greater Bay Area, or just a tourist this is the place to go:)
