Loved it, honestly one of the best parks in the area. We walked the main loop by the marsh and saw egrets and a few deer, it was so quiet and peaceful. The old ranch house has some neat exhibits inside, definately worth a peek. The trail is easy but theres one spot near the boardwalk thats a little muddy so watch your step. Hiked about three miles total and didnt see many people, felt like we had the place to ourselves. Only thing is tthe mosquitoes can be bad late afternoon, bring bug spray. Would absolutley go again next time we are in lake county.

We arrived during a heat wave, with temperatures reaching 37 degrees Celsius and the sun blazing. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a barren landscape, and initially thought we’d chosen the wrong destination. But once we stepped inside, a warm feeling washed over us. This must have been an early farm built on the waters of Clear Lake, and here we could see the entire farm. Then came the enchanting autumn scenery: a gentle breeze rustled golden waves, sparkling with tiny diamonds. A massive walnut tree, as large as a tree, stood beside the prairie, a breathtaking sight.

Lovely little historic state park with flat, easy hiking trails. We came in the morning to try to beat the heat and found street parking easily outside the gate. It costs $4 to park inside the lot, which also has a port-a-potty restroom and a little more shade. Plenty of picnic tables near the historic lot, but I would watch where you sit.

The trail to the creek goes through a stretch of full sun before hitting any shade. The creek itself was super green and not moving at all (probably since it’s late summer with lower water levels).

Loved the historical barn and house there. I really liked that throughout the trails ( there are multiple short ones) there are informational posts about the animals there and landmarks. A group of us went, took tons of beautiful pictures and had lunch at the picnic tables. There are porter potties there so I waited to use the bathroom until after we left. It’s nice for a small hike there
